Our Partners
GAN has developed a number of valuable partners
who it works with on a regular basis. We fundamentally
believe that many organisations have shared objectives
which can more efficiently and economically implemented
through partnership and working together.

GANs Main Partners
Voluntary
Services Overseas (VSO)
GAN and VSO Nepal have been working in partnership
since April 2002 and have undertaken a variety
of joint activities in order to achieve shared
objectives. As a Kathmandu-based NGO, working
to support government schools, GAN is a key strategic
partner of VSO Nepal. Our partnership began with
Amelia's Shaw's placement with GAN as a Primary
Education Adviser. The purpose of her placement
is to:
- Raise standards of education
in GAN's catchment area through development
of skills of teachers, government educationalists
and our own field staff
- Support the capacity building
and organisational strengthening of GAN
- Building capacity and skills
of individuals in key roles to improve the quality
of education in GAN's catchment areas
- Developing, increasing capacity
in awareness and participating in education
Further partnership activities are currently
being developed. For example, discussion between
GAN and VSO has identified a further common area
of focus in the need to build the capacity of
Head Teachers, school staff, parents and members
of the community to ensure that schools can be
effectively managed.

"It's clear
that VSO and GAN share goals
and purpose, and by working
together we can being significantly
greater value and increased
impact then we could achieve
working alone"

Room
to Read
Room to Read are an American INGO who has been
working in Nepal predominantly in the areas of
providing libraries and reading materials in communities
throughout Nepal. We have been fortunate this
year to have received a large number of books,
teaching materials and posters on behalf of our
Resource Centres and members schools.
Ministry of Education, Nepal
GAN has been working closely with the Ministry
of Education for several years on our Teacher-Training
programmes and Unit Resource Centres. We have
recently received funding from them to implement
an Early Childhood Development programme.
British Embassy, Kathmandu
The British Embassy helped fund a sanitation project
in Kaski, one of our partner secondary schools,
with GAN at the end of 2002, where the British
Embassy provided financial and logistical support.
We are hoping to receive further support from
the British Embassy in Kathmandu during the next
year.
Jerwood
Charitable Foundation
The Jerwood Charitable Foundation have been generous
enough to support our work in Nepal for three
years, with a particular focus on our Teacher-Training
programmes. Although predominantly an organisation
which funds the arts, they have a special interest
in Nepal as well, and we are most grateful to
them for their support.
Young Star Club
The Young Star Club (YSC) has been working with
GAN since 1996 when the charity was founded. Their
main remit is on social work and youth development
in Everest region, with a focus on hydro-electricity
and micro-credit. YSC works with GAN to help administer
the child sponsorship programme in the region,
as well as the non-formal education programme
of basic skills development that we have been
running in the Thating community, one of the poorest
in the district.
Disabled Welfare Association
In 2003 we were pleased to initiate a relationship
with the Disabled Welfare Association (Nepal),
an organisation whose main activity is the upkeep
and maintenance of The Hope centre,
an institution that provides care, assistance,
education and accommodation to 13 children whose
parents are unable to provide for them.
Without an office in Nepal, the organisation
has problems in monitoring the activities of the
centre, which is where GAN has been able to assist.
We are working closely with them at the moment
to secure a long-term future for the children
of the Hope Centre.
Need
in Nepal
Need in Nepal are an umbrella organisation which
was established with the intention of funding
the activities of various charities and NGOs which
work in Nepal. We have received funding from Need
in Nepal historically to assist in the development
of our Teacher-Training programmes
